  1. Wonder if he got the “your offer is this much and drops to this much if you attend the spring game” talk.
  2. Wow— Kyle to UCLA out of nowhere…. Kind of lol
  3. Down to #23 as our chances of hosting continue to dwindle. Will probably need to go somewhere in the ballpark of 13-2ish the rest of the way.
  4. Hopeful we don’t get into a bidding war here. We should offer what we believe is a reasonable price and if he takes a bag just to take a bag, then so be it. Would love Kyle… but don’t want to put all our eggs (filled with dollars) in one basket.
  5. I have a hard time faulting 18-22 year olds from taking advantage of a situation that, frankly, the adults in the room should have thought about. I’m a Husker homer. 100%. Even I wouldn’t turn down the 100K if offered. Many of these guys will need a life after basketball and how many of us would have loved to start that life after college with a cool 100K+ in our bank accounts? I think we need to pay Nebraska born players what they’re worth/what we believe they’re worth. Now, as I said above, I absolutely do not think we should overpay what we believe their worth is. That may sometimes mean other teams being a higher bidder. That doesn’t mean we should/did lowball an offer. It’s a delicate balance and because it’s the Wild West out there right now, things change on what seems like a daily basis.
  6. We finally get a shutdown inning and do nothing with it. Frustrating.
  7. The players have to WANT to be here too. Obviously we reached out to Frankie. He visited. He chose elsewhere. We also can’t over pay just to get guys from the state. You make it sound like he has completely ignored in state talent when it seems like we’re usually the first to reach out.
  8. Don’t want to poo poo on the game too early… but I’m getting huge “here we go again” vibes.
  9. You also only have to pay a rookie contract instead of a veteran contract when you pay freshman.
  10. Looking at the beginning of the year, we were pretty fortunate thinking we wouldn’t have to play most of the teams in the bottom half of the league. Oh how the tables have turned since then. now you’re left with games against teams like Iowa that are Q4 home games. Sucks.
  11. So a couple of things. 1st, there has been a ton that has happened since DW made that comment and Fred is more in the majority than minority now when it comes to using transfers. As you noted, it almost makes you wonder why you should even recruit freshman. And I have a few reasons. 1. 13 scholarships. 13 guys aren’t going to play and if you have 3-5 transfers sitting on your bench, you’re going to have some chemistry issues. Freshman are more willing to take the experience even though they might transfer. 2 Though it’ll be rare, you’re still going to have a guy here or there that sticks around for multiple years. 3. The grass isn’t always greener. We’ve seen guys go back to the school they started at. If you have a freshman come, transfer out, and hit the portal again… you’ve develop that relationship already. Just a few quick thoughts I’ve had.
