By the way, whoever told Connie Yori ...

Whoever told Connie Yori that no other Nebraska men's or women's basketball players had ever gone to 4 straight NCAA tournaments  ...  really dropped the ball in their research.

Eric Piatkowski and Bruce Chubick say hello.

Tim added the "two different conferences" part.  Connie continued to repeat that her seniors had a chance to do something -- go to 4 NCAA tourneys -- that no other Husker players, men's or women's, had ever done before.  And that's just not correct.

maybe she should have said they have a chance to do something no other husker players, men's or women, had ever done before and that's go to 4 straight NCAA Tourneys and Win.

I was there last night and think she said that no other woman's team had ever done that.  I don't think she was including the men's program.

So, when she said "men's OR women's" you think she was just referring to ... what exactly?

Calm down as that is why I said I "THINK" she only said the woman's team.  I didn't hear her refer to the men's team as part of her comment.  If she did, then she is incorrect.

So, there I was at the scrimmage the other night, watching the introductions and listening to two coaches speak, and Connie Yori -- who is deservedly very proud of her team -- announces that her four seniors have a chance to do something no other Husker basketball team has ever done before, men's or women's, and that is to go to 4 NCAA tournaments.

And I immediately turn to the guy next to me and say, "That's not true.  Pike and Chubick both went to 4 straight."

Then Tim Miles jumps in and suggests "in two different conferences."

But Connie repeats it -- without the "in two different conferences" part -- at least a couple more times.

So, I come in the following day and say, oh, by the way, whoever told her that none of the men had ever done it kinda dropped the ball.  And I point out that, in fact, Pike and Chubs already did that.

And then, without comment whatsoever, cbolte comes along and down-arrows 3 of my posts in this thread.

cbolte, was it wrong of me to point out that Connie Yori's statement was in error?  Was it wrong of me to stand up for a guy whose jersey is hanging in the rafters of that very building?  Should I have just let it go?

I mean, help me out here.  What's the problem with what I said?  You can down arrow me if you want, but three times with no comment giving the slightest hint as to why?  What's up with that?

I knew that would get you to say something. Just downed arrow because you said it once didn't need to be repeated. They are both from Nebraska and we should be happy for the both of them even if you hate women's basketball (which I have no idea). But the night was just all in fun and hey who knows maybe she was just trying to give Miles crap!!! I didn't mean anything by the down arrows was just giving you crap since it was said more than once and I figured you would probably say something... No Biggy

No hate at all.  Check out the women's board.  You'll find I'm an enthusiastic supporter of Connie and her crew.

I made additional comments beyond the first because I was responding to other comments.

No biggy.

BTW, Normy I tend to agree w/ you on this type of misinformation. The 4-time NCAA tourney Nebrasketball of the early 90's was an accomplishment that should be repeated, not depleted. Kind of surprised that Yori would not know that the men's team had done that, but I guess she was a Creightonian at that time... anyway, like I said, it's a great accomplishment to get to 4 straight Big Dances, and I hope that in 3 years the men's team will 'repeat' the feat! Just up arrowed your 4 posts Norm.  Happy Halloween and GBR!

Hey, thanks, Nighthawk.  I've decided I'll go trick-or-treating as a fat guy in a blazer with a loosened tie.  Pretty frightening getup, I'd say.

that's something I'm really curious about, and have been for quite a while; what was your inspiration for the cheers picture? Do you look just like him? Are you a show aficionado as I was in the past? Now that I've known you here for a few years, I have been conditioned via your profile pic to think of you personally as the character in the show. I'm not even sure if his name was norm, or something, or what! ;)

Wolv, that's an interesting question.  I probably don't look as much like him as I pretend, although I'm heavier than I wish I was and I do love to eat.  It's OK with me if people want to picture me as a fat guy with curly hair.  Better than a fat guy with no hair, AFAIC.

The handle was purely accidental.  I had a different "Norm" handle before and it was something that I discovered someone else was using in a different forum and I didn't want to be confused with that person, so I had to switch and wasn't sure what to switch to.  Some of my buddies on the old Rivals site wanted me to keep the name or at least keep the Norm part, so I had to come up with something else with "Norm," and "Norm Peterson" just seemed natural.

So that's how it happened.
