31st game.

I complained at length about this last year... and I am going to at least make another thread this year.

 

It annoys me and feels like a scheduling mistake by Miles--who I think is a great scheduler--to not get a 31st game.

 

The issue is that you get 27 games and 1 tournament.  The tournament can be up to 4 games.  If the tournament is only 3 games than you are allowed to schedule one of the tournament teams outside that tournament.  

 

So Colorado, George Washington, DePaul and Ohio on the other side of the bracket of the Diamond Head Bracket.  Schedule one of those teams!  Pay Ohio, DePaul or George Washington to come play in Lincoln.  Or set up a return trip next year with them.  Talk Colorado into a home and home with the second game coming next year.

 

The other thing you can do is pick tournaments that are 4 games!

 

Why do I feel like this is a big deal?  We are going to struggle to get to 20 wins, just like we did last year.  Fair or not, 20 wins is a magical number for a high major team.  If you can reach 20 wins you had a good season.  Last year if we had one more win our record would have been more impressive.

I hear ya. I'd imagine Miles & Co. must feel the juice isn't worth the squeeze just yet. Maybe in 2015-16 they'll find an agreeable opponent to jointly pull the trigger on that 'extra' game.... as you now, that 1 gm could be scheduled as a one-time venture or a home-and-home. Personally, I think Nebraska overwhelmingly wants a home game, and likely no one wants to come to Lincoln to likely get beat!

If we added a bad opponent at home, even if we won, our RPI would be worse because of it. This is because 75% of the RPI formula focuses on SOS and opponent's SOS, and for the actual W/L portion, a home win is only worth 0.6 wins.

 

I think it's debatable if the juice would be worth the squeeze here.

I believe if it is only a 3 game tournament the "fourth" game as to be against somebody who is in the tourney so it wouldn't be a SWAC team coming to PBA, it would be somebody already in the tournament like an Ohio, Colorado, etc.
