2014-2015 KenPom Rankings Thread

Well, if we can get them (Creighton) into the top 100, at least we'll only have one home loss outside the top 100 and that will burnish our NCAA resume at least a little bit.

I think this is known but RPI is what matters for tourney time. KenPom matter for picking who is going to win at the moment.

That's what I thought but then someone said last year that they do factor in Kenpom rankings.  So, I don't know what to make of it.

They can factor in those ratings (among others) though RPI is the defacto system for the NCAA.

Three losses we shouldn't have that make all the difference between us being a solid bubble team and having a lot of work to do just to get within striking distance of the bubble:

Creighton and Incarnate Word at home; Hawaii on the road.

Everything else, we can live with.

True. To prove that in the B1G, Nebraska's 3 losses are to the 2 teams tied for 1st (Wisconsin & Indiana) & the team a game back in 5th (Iowa). And, two of the 3 were on the road w/ hottest team going the only loss in Lincoln. In the 1st B1G game, NU lost 70-65 to the Hoosiers, who tonight just pummeled the team previously in 1st Maryland by the score of 89-70.

Next game for NU is against the other team tied for 5th & the following game is against a team tied for 3rd at 5-2 (but missing their best player, Caris LeVert). Huge games against the state of Michigan, 1st at PBA in less than 40 hrs & then follow up next Tuesday at Crisler. If NU goes 2-0 vs MSU & UM, the Huskers could be situated in the top 4 of the conference with 10 games remaining.

I'm going to try out a slight formatting change today, let me know if it is better, worse or no difference.  I'm going to mark W's and L's for conference away games in red so we can quickly differentiate there.

Not a whole lot of change but Penn State is threatening to be a top 100 team by the time we play them.  Michigan State joins Cincinnati as really good wins for us, UIW and Hawaii remain the worst losses and will likely stay that way.

KenPom rankings as of 1-25-15.

Hawaii is the team to root for as they're a sub 150 rpi team right now.

Checked today and Nebraska hasn't moved.  So, for other entertainment in the Kenpom rankings today, we have ...

Memphis one spot ahead of Tennessee; Columbia one spot ahead of Missouri; and Brown one spot ahead of Rice.

So, if you were looking through the rankings, you'd see ... Memphis, Tennessee ... Columbia, Missouri ... and Brown, Rice.

OK, it was entertaining to me.

After yesterday’s game, Nebraska is #130 in KenPom. That will probably shuffle around a few spots over the next couple of weeks, but not much. Why is this significant? It’s exactly the same ranking we ended 2012-13 – Tim Miles’ first year.  Who were our leading scorers that year?

1.       Dylan Talley (Sr.)

2.       Ray Gallegos (Jr.)

3.       Brandon Ubel (Sr.)

4.       Shavon Shields (Fr.)

5.       David Rivers (So.)

6.       Andre Almeida (Jr. ?)

7.       Benny Parker (Fr.)

For this team to not improve one bit in KenPom over that team… wow.

That's what happens when you don't improve as the season goes on.

Especially true  when many of your better players not only lacked improvement but tended more, as a whole, toward a bit of a regression....
