What is the vision of Tim Miles

He's referenced "The Plan"  quite a bit since arriving in Lincoln.

I apologize as this isn't going to be as cohesive as it should be.

Based on the trend of this previous teams it would seem that he wants guys to piece together a team with a high Effective FG %. His last two Nebraska teams have been among the worst in his Div I time. We have guys who can score....we just need some guys who can shoot.

Thus, he's looking for a combination of guys who can shoot and who can score (drive to the rim/post inside).  He's always looking for "combo guards" because he wants a guy running the offense who can either shoot or score....which is why you've seen Dylan Talley and Terran Petteway become the "point guard" over Benny and Tai over the course of a season.

He's also looking to generate points at the FT line.  He runs an offense built on penetrating and contact...not necessarily passing.  The numbers back this up: FT rate direct influences your chances to win, Assist rates indirectly.

The least critical things to Miles are assists and offensive rebounds. His offense by nature isn't going to generate a ton of assist and he seems willing to give up extra possessions in favor of minimizing the other team's fast break points. Since the plan is to shoot at a great clip

On defense the big focus has been owning the defensive boards.  Otherwise it's simply been about being competent.  Last season was easily the best defensive team he's coached in Div 1.  He doesn't seem concerned about tempo...whatever it takes to win there.

I think Miles would be happy with a 2-3 6'10+ types, 2-3 6'2- types, and the rest 6'6-6'8".  He seems willing to pick up short guys with PG skills and like any coach want and needs size on defense.  The rest should be taller guys capable of playing and guarding multiple positions.

Given Bo Ryan's calling cards are slow down tempo and defense. If anything I see Miles as an uptempo offense oriented coach.  I think there are some major similarities with what they're doing but historically their focus hasn't been the same. We'll have to see if this season was an outlier or if Miles is migrating towards an overall focus on defense.

Honestly I dont think Tim is 100% sure.  I think he probably has an idea but he's never been somewhere where he can get the top shelf players to implement everything.  I think it will be a work in progress to find out exactly what works best for him.

I think there is a ton of truth to this.  Dimes showed the previous blueprint, but he's never had the group of guys assembled that he has now....to say nothing of where we look like we're heading in 2015-2017.  He'll be like a kid in a candy store.

One other tremendous thing that we can expect is for us to get much better benefit from practices...he now has players that almost all his recruits, who know what to expect and know his systems.

Just as importantly, look at the quality of that 2nd group.  If you assume for the sake of argument that our starting group is:

PG: Parker

SG: Petteway

SF: Shields

PF: Rivers

C: Pitchford

...they would be facing in practice:

PG: Smith

SG: Webster

SF: White?

PF: Fuller

C: Abraham

That second group has two former 4-star guys from Georgetown and Kansas, a highly-regarded international recruit that started most of our games at PG a year ago, an exciting PG prospect from the East Coast, and a dangerous 3-pt shooting 3/4.  I'm not entirely sure that second group isn't equal or even better to some of the starting lineups we've rolled out in past years.  In other words, that's a heck of a tough matchup.

Next year we'll be adding some big-time recruits into the fold as well.

Iron sharpens iron.  Talent creates talent.  Things are good.

As I said a while back, the best thing about this team now is that a injury won't kill us. Might slow us for a while, but it won't mean we have to hang on and hope.

We can still run out a team that can beat anybody, even if God forbid, TERRAN where to go down. There I said it now I hope that doesn't curse us or him!

I agree w the size Dimes throws out but I don't see up tempo offense necessarily as the focal point I see more balance. Having guys at every spot who can shoot it when open. Morrow would be tremendous in open floor game. White seems to be a pure shooter what I've read not flashy as much as he can just stroke it. I definitely see it as a mix.
