Looks like the whole schedule is released. Who the hell is Incarnate Word (http://www.uiw.edu/)?

I thought we got rid of schools like this.

Have to have at least one or two schools a year that are lay down wins that won't require a return trip.

They are the team that finished second place to Indiana for this kid

UIW won 20 games last year in a mixed schedule. They are in the Southland Conference. They have some interesting players and early in the year could give us a good look. The campus is across the street from the zoo in San Antonio. My son works at the zoo and when we visited him we drove by the campus. Very pretty campus and I think an older school that has some standing in the

state if Texas.

if you look at our schedule, we've really got a fairly nice setup to build off of last year.  the tougher non-conference games have a couple easier games to warm up and work out kinks.

it's also setup is such that we'd better make some noise early.  after the first 7 games or so the B1G gets brutal.  ideally we'd be something like 15-4 or better in our first 19 games because it gets tougher from there.  if we build off our momentum from last year we could ride that type of record (or better) and just keep winning.

TBA (assuming it's someone like FGCU last year) .. likely setup as a win but not a horrible program

Central arkansas... win

at Rhode Island... toughish game

UNO ..win

Tennessee Martin ... win

at FSU ... tough game

Creighton... win (and if you want to try to pull a bluejay homer "oh it'll be close" you need a reality check at how much that team lost this year and notice where the game's being played)

Incarnate word ... win

Cincinatti ... tough game

then we've got that tournament followed by the B1G.

the schedule setup is such that we'd better make some LOUD noise early.  of course i honestly think this team will do that... we've got the talent.

as for the B1G portion... 5 of the first 7 are at home but they've got a couple brutal road trips (iowa and wisconsin) mixed in there... plus indiana, minnesota and michigan state at home.  set up to help us succeed if we win, but if not....

we are going to get people's best shots in lincoln this year because of only losing once last year (plus michigan state will be a bit mad) at home so we can't take home court for granted.

we probably need to take at least one of the first four on the road (iowa, wisconsin, michigan, minnesota) and hold serve at home (indiana, rutgers, illinois, minnesota, msu) to get where we want to go in the second half.  6-3 or even 5-4 if we lose one would do pretty well for us.  there's more road trips in the second half (psu, purdue, maryland, osu, illinois) but we're not playing the top half of the conference except for ohio state and maybe maryland.   the second half home games (northwestern, wisconsin, iowa, maryland) are a mixed bag.  pretty much depends on which teams show up other than wisconsin and you have to like our odds at home anyway.

off the cuff given everything... say... 5-4 first half, 6-3 second half for the same record in conference as last year.  don't get me wrong, i think we're going to be a better team but 1) stuff happens and 2) we probably won some games we shouldnt have last year.  being above .500 in this conference 2 years in a row is nothing to sneeze at.

i'd like to think we can better that record, but if we take care of business in the non-conference (10-2 or better... say we lose at FSU and one of the tournament games -- both of which legitimately might not happen) we'd be 21-9 and at least 4 seeds higher with a more than passable shot at winning some conference tournament games AND an ncaa game.  our rpi would probably be in the mid 20's.

to me it seems hard to argue with those being decent results just looking at the schedule off the cuff.  i HOPE we see some real improvement from several players and that we win a few more games than that, but i haven't seen people play all summer to sit here and just say 'it'll happen'.  it's a possibility given a few things i've heard though.

Oh, and thanks for the info on UIW, Silverback. I lived in San Antonio for four years, and visited the zoo many times, but had never heard of the place. Since it only began admitting men in 1970, I would guess it took a quantum leap as an institution of higher learning with the government money available, decided athletics were a money making endeavor, and now has a passable basketball tradition established. Good for them. I also found out on their website that it is the largest Catholic University in Texas.
