Tim Miles spoke at B1G Media Days yesterday, and was fantastic, as usual. Jake and Lanny dive into his quotes and react to the funniest coach in the conference. P-Web battles Lanny in a Film Friday version of Hang Up On Holstein, featuring Russell Crowe.

This is an article from the Fort Wayne (IN) paper on the B1G that has a section on the Huskers.

It includes some material that you may have read quotes on before...interesting to see Miles gets the largest share of the article in foreign territory!:

 

Then there’s Nebraska, a previous conference doormat that has suddenly caught fire under coach Tim Miles. It helps to have state-of-the-art facilities that have made Lincoln a must-see stop on the recruiting trail.

Last season, Miles’ second with the Cornhuskers, they went 19-13 and made the NCAA tourney for the first time since 1999.

Now, with standouts such as Terran Pettway and Shavon Shields back, Nebraska looks to make a push at a Big Ten title.

Success hasn’t cost Miles his sense of humor. Ask him about his offense and he says, “If you want to come to Lincoln and see missed shots, we’re right there, baby. Then you can go to Gate 25 afterwards and get something to eat.”

Ask him about how to continue last season’s success and he says, with tongue planted firmly in cheek, “We probably just throw the ball to Petteway and Shields, stand there and say nothing.

“I mean, last year we weren’t any good until we defended. Once we started playing solid defense and got good defensive rebounding, we became a good team. I think we’ve continued in that direction. Defense has to be our calling card.”

As far as handling expectations as a contender, Miles says he tells his players to “live in the moment, embrace that moment and try to get better every day.

“Nobody should have higher expectations than we do.”

Miles remembers Nebraska blowing an 18-point lead against Ohio State in the Big Ten tourney, then following that with poor practices and then an opening-round NCAA tourney loss to Baylor

“(Before the Big Ten tourney) we won 11 out of 13, and that’s a championship-style run, which is pretty cool. But that’s not what we remember. We remember the way the season ended and not that big run. Our players put in the work like they’re still picked dead last.”

Late last night, Tim Miles was in Dixon, Illinois watching Isaiah Roby - a 2016 prospect that he had offered in July. Since Miles extended that offer, Isaiah has taken two unofficial visits to Nebraska. After his most recent visit, in September, he was wowed by the Huskers and last night he couldn't let Tim Miles leave without committing to play for Nebraska.

Nebraska (19-13, 11-7): Between the raucous sellout crowds at its sparkling new arena and an unexpected late-season surge to slip into the NCAA tournament, Nebraska enjoyed its most successful season in at least two decades last year. Now the Huskers will try to build on that success and show it was no one-year aberration. Nebraska has every chance to make loud crowds, marquee wins and national headlines its new normal thanks to the return of Big Ten player of the year candidate Terran Petteway, slashing wing Shavon Shields and most of last season's core. The addition of Georgetown transfer Moses Abraham will also help, giving the Huskers a physical defensive presence in the paint to pair with finesse-oriented stretch forward Walter Pitchford. If all Nebraska's returners merely improve incrementally and a season-ending knee injury to forward Leslee Smith doesn't leave the team shy of frontcourt depth, the Huskers should return to the postseason and maybe even notch their first NCAA tournament win in program history. If Tai Webster takes a big leap at point guard, a third big man emerges to solidify the frontcourt and Petteway develops a consistent outside shot to go with his knack for attacking off the dribble, Nebraska is fully capable of accomplishing even more than that.
